Why was snake eyes a GI Joe, shouldn’t he have been in cobra?

This is a common question that has popped up in my email account a few times since the hit movie was released.The following might help explain a little more of the history of Snake Eyes and his role as a GI Joe:

When the Hard Master died, the Arashikage clan was left in a mess and Snake-Eyes an orphan again. He relocated to a hut in the mountains where he lived alone with his pet wolf called Timber. After some time, Hawk and Stalker approached Snake Eyes and asked him if he’d like to be part of the GI Joe team (this is when GI joe was first being organized). Snake Eyes agreed and the rest is history.

He swore his loyalty to GI Joe early on and as far as I know, he never wavered to the Cobra team like his blood broth, Storm Shadow.

More About Snake Eyes

Snake Eyes is definitely one of the most mysterious characters in GI Joe. Mush of his history is either unknown or considered classified information – this including his real name and place of birth.

In 1982 Snake Eyes was released as a Commando but as the story progressed, it became apparent that his abilities were far superior to a Commando – Snake Eyes is a fully fledged ninja trained by the “League of Shadows” like Batman.

Being a key character in the GI Joe story, Snake Eye’s developed a strange relationship with fellow character Storm Shadow. Storm Shadow’s history has also anything but simple as he has fought for both good and evil. At times allying with Snake Eye’s and at other times fighting to the death against him.

In the recent release of the GI Joe movie, Snake-Eyes is played by Ray Park. The character in the movie is classic Snake Eye’s – right down to the clothes he wears and the weapons he uses.
